The Dangerous Goods Group B – Non-DG Cargo Acceptance Personnel: eLearning course provides essential training for personnel handling general cargo, excluding dangerous goods. This includes staff employed by, or working on behalf of, operators, freight forwarders, cargo agents, and agencies representing operators (Categories 4 and 7 from the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations Table 1.5.A).

During this SACAA-accredited eLearning course, participants gain a thorough understanding of dangerous goods, their potential hazards, and the procedures required to ensure safe air transport. The self-paced program features interactive materials, online assessments, and expert instructor guidance. Learners use a device with a video camera and microphone to complete all forms and assessments digitally, while the intuitive platform provides real-time feedback to track progress effectively.

Upon successful completion, learners are awarded a SACAA-accredited Certificate of Competency, valid for 24 months. To maintain compliance, refresher courses should be scheduled at least 30 days before the certificate expires.

Description

The Dangerous Goods Group B – Non-DG Cargo Acceptance course, accredited by the SACAA, targets personnel responsible for accepting general cargo, excluding dangerous goods. This includes employees or representatives of operators, freight forwarders, cargo agents, and related agencies. Participants must demonstrate competence in all tasks related to the safe transport of dangerous goods by air for which they are responsible.

According to Subsection 1.5 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, employers must ensure that personnel can perform any assigned function before executing it. This competence is achieved through structured training and assessment. Consequently, this course delivers practical exercises, guidance, and evaluations to ensure compliance and operational readiness.

  • Correctly use and verify specification markings on dangerous goods packaging

  • Understand and verify documentation used for dangerous goods transport
  • Apply rules regarding dangerous goods in passenger and crew baggage
  • Respond effectively to dangerous goods emergencies
  • Learners who successfully complete the course receive a SACAA-accredited Certificate of Competency, valid for 24 months
  • The course meets the training requirements of Part 92 – Conveyance of Dangerous Goods under the South African Civil Aviation Regulations, as well as ICAO Dangerous Goods training standards (CAA/DG/0031)
